(More customer reviews)Before I got this book, I was expecting a lot from National Geographic, and as always, this book met my expectations. There is a bevy of good stuff between the two covers. Their advice is very extensive which cover many topics, it has suggestions, tips and points of view you've probably never heard from your friends before, the pictures work very good with the advice in this book, just like the Dorling Kindersley Washington, D.C. book, each attraction is sorted by neighborhood, the explanation of Washington, D.C.'s history and Washington today is very well said, the author gives plenty of attention to the places to visit just outside the District's borders. This book has virtually every beginner and intermediate detail I needed for my trip, plus a few interesting advanced ones.
Overall, if you are only staying a day or two in the nation's capital, this might be the only book you need, but if you're staying a little longer, I'd say your best choice for a second book would be the Unofficial Guide. It has perks this guide doesn't, and vice versa. The price you pay for this book on Amazon.com is well worth the great photographs and advice. It may also be helpful to get the free official visitor's guide from the visitor center either way. And I agree that this book does have information and interpretation not available on the internet.
Thanks, National Geographic!
