Mannie Grand is a large woman with a big heart and a keen mind. She's also a stand up comedian who ends up investigating the murder of one of her cohorts. Cleverly written so that gags and humor don't intrude upon the mystery and the plot, this book is a fast summer read. It's not Tolstoy but I didn't expect it to be. The dialogue is the selling point of this tale. The folks talk and act like real Minnesotans (without the corney "Fargo" dialect). The ending seemed to wind up a little too fast for my liking, sort of like "Murder She Wrote" on speed. But maybe I just wanted to remain in Mannie's world for a while longer.
A very satisfying read.
